"On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are most delighted to invite you to the Eleventh AEARU Workshop on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology to be held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), on 21-22 December, 2011."

Prof. Joseph T.Y. Wong (Division of Life Science, HKUST) and

Prof. Weijia Wen (Department of Physics, HKUST)

Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee

The AEARU Workshop on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
is a successful series of workshops initiated since 1996. This workshop provides a forum for scientists to exchange the recent progress and ideas related to physical biology. The topics of the workshop include, but not limited to the following areas; Physical Biology of Biopolymers, Physical Biology of Cells, Physical Biology of Biomechanics, Physical Biology of Microfluidics, Applied and Computational Physical Biology.

Physical Biology
- Living organisms are made up of metastable physical systems (cells) of biopolymers, studies of which are at the intersection between physical and biological sciences. With the accumulation of data in molecular and systems biology, complexity of biological systems can now be tackled by physical and engineering approaches. Similarly, biological sciences will benefit with a quantitative understanding of biological systems.  The very different investigative approaches between physical and biological sciences are potentially cross-fertile and their successful integration will enable the tackling of completely new issues, as well as transforming both disciplines themselves.
